This bulb will work on rapid start ballast, or on the old time Pre-heat fixtures. If you have the older fixture, you might also need a fluorescent starter, FS2

if you have an older fixture, we recommend changing the starter when changing the bulb; will increase the life of the bulb - 

the correct starter is the FS-2
